NLPAC ANNUAL DANCE SHOW 2008

‘SUGAR AND SPICE AND ALL THINGS CHOCOLATE!’

Over 800 children performed at the New London Performing Arts Centre annual dance show at The RADA Theatre in London’s West End on Sunday 30th March 2008.

The day’s performances opened with a musical production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory complete with orange Oompa Loompas, Chocolate Rivers and everlasting gobstoppers! The audience were taken on an adventure through the magical world of Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory. The children were incredible, a cast of 70 all dancing and singing and performing to a semi professional level.

Audiences were then treated an amazing variety of 50 dance numbers choreographed to songs based on the theme of sweets and chocolate! Four shows were performed by NLPAC’s ballet, tap, break dance, contemporary, street jazz and hip hop students (aged from 4 to 16 years). Pieces were also performed by the Centre’s Break Dance and Contemporary Jazz Troupes, both of which have recently been showcasing their choreography at Sadler’s Wells. Most recently the Contemporary Jazz Troupe performed at the Lilian Bayliss Theatre (Sadler’s Wells) as part of the National Youth Dance Festival where they received some great feedback from judges including Matthew Bourne, director of New Adventures and Resident Artist at Sadler’s Wells.

The day was a huge success and a fantastic opportunity for the students to perform at a great theatre!

“It was wonderful to see the students enjoying the performance experience alongside their classmates and I was impressed by the overall standard.”

Emily Byron - Principal
