GCSE DRAMA
An entry by audition class where the GCSE syllabus is taught over one year culminating in a performance to the visiting examiner in May.
 
  • The course encourages students to work imaginatively and creatively in a collaborative  context, creating, developing and communicating ideas
 
  • The specification has a clear, three-unit structure, with two units led and assessed by the teacher and a third assessed by an external examiner
 
  • The final examination is performance-based rather than written. Marks are given to performance and practical ability, making this a very hands-on and realistic course. 
 
Course runs Tuesdays 6-8pm and Thursdays 6-8pm

GCSE MUSIC
The GCSE Music syllabus is taught over one academic year.
 
  • It allows the use of music technology in performance and as a compositional tool, which exposes students to new ways of making music.
 
  • It is good preparation for further musical study and provides a foundation for the Advanced Subsidiary and Advanced GCE in Music and Music Technology.
 
  • It encourages students to evaluate their own and others’ music.
 
  • It encourages students to become effective and independent learners and critical and reflective thinkers.
 
  • The modular approach, with separate assessments for performance, composing and listening/appraising, eases the pressure on students.
 
  • Reduced written work and an emphasis on practical ability means students will get a realistic feel for being a musician.

GCSE DANCE
An entry by audition class where the GCSE syllabus is taught over one year covering choreography, safe practice, performance, critical appreciation of dance and study of prescribed professional works.
 
  • promotes fitness, a healthy lifestyle, team working and creativity.
 
  • actively engages students in the process of dance in order to develop as effective and independent learners and as critical and reflective thinkers with enquiring minds.
 
  • develops students' skills, knowledge and understanding of a range of dance styles through the interrelated processes of performing, creating and appreciating dances.
 
  • develops physical, technical and expressive skills through which students are able to communicate choreographic intention and develop their individual qualities as performers.
 
  • develops students' skills, knowledge and understanding of choreography through which they are able to communicate ideas, thoughts and meaning drawn from a range of dance styles.
 
  • develops a critical appreciation of dance in its physical, artistic, aesthetic and cultural contexts.
 
  • provides progression from Key Stage 3 and a solid foundation for further studies in dance or performing arts, including A-level Dance and the Creative and Media Diploma, and/or a career in performing arts.
 
Course runs Mondays 6-8 with technique class 5-6.
