Level 1 - Dance Leader Award
 
DESCRIPTION
: The Level 1 Award in Dance Leadership is a nationally recognised qualification that enables successful candidates to lead small groups in simple dance activities, whilst under the direct supervision of their tutor.
 
The qualification teaches generic leadership skills such as organisation, planning, communication and teamwork through the medium of dance. It is a fun and practical qualification with no entrance requirements or final examinations to sit.
 
From the course you will gain the following skills and knowledge:
·       How to plan and prepare for the delivery of dance classes or workshops
·       Basic communication skills for leading a dance activity
·       Principles of health, fitness and safe dance practice
·       Understanding the relationship of music to dance
·       Understanding of the scope of opportunities in dance both locally and for further study
·       Creating, developing and assisting with the performance of a simple dance piece
·       Leadership skills in dance.                          
 
CONTENT:The Level 1 Award in Dance Leadership consists of six units of work including one hour demonstration of leadership: Plan, lead and review a dance activity | Developing leadership skills | Lead activities that promote a healthy lifestyle | The relationship of music to dance | Use a stimulus to create a dance piece | Opportunities in dance.
 
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: Age: 16+ (please note, there is no upper age limit for this qualification) Please note no formal dance training is required for entry onto this Programme however a reasonable level of fitness and a genuine Interest in delivering dance in the community should be apparent.
 
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:In order for candidates to complete their Level 1 Award in Dance Leadership they must complete one hour demonstration of leadership. This element of the qualification is part of Unit 1, however the one hour demonstration of leadership must happen at the end of the course, after all of the taught aspects have been delivered.
 
ATTENDANCE
Day: Wednesday 5.00-6.00
An hour of assisting is required each week on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday and possibly over half terms.
Duration: 18 Weeks

All students must be a member of the Centre.
 
All students 18 and over will be required to have an Enhanced Criminal Record Background check (CRB) which can be applied for through NLPAC at a cost of £52.
